You can get the Latitude from about �350 (+VAT - do you pay VAT?). Not sure what spec you get for that.
The Lenovo thinkpads are good and tend to be well built, but they tend to be not cheap. You might be able to pick up a bargain for something 6 months old though.

I was hoping to spend less than �400, so second hand is probably the way to go,
I fancy a thinkpad again as they are small light and this one took a right kicking over the 3 years before it could take no more, and it's still dragging itself along.

If Dell are pretty tough then they could be an option, I'll get looking...

This is going to be used for work isn't it? In which case you want it to be reliable. I'm a fan of Dell's business range of laptops (the Latitude range). They're not wildly exciting, but they work well, spares are easy to get for them, and you can have a good warranty on them (though I doubt they'll come out to an oil rig to fix it ). If you buy it through Quidco you can get 5% off too.
Make sure you look at the Latitude range though, not the Inspiron range.

Well when the gallery moved from one server to another I took the opportunity to change the version of the gallery software. However, I've not had a chance to import the photos to the new site yet.

All options based on 10 nights. Leaving Gatwick on the 5th March at 1215pm returning 1420 on the 15th (arrive back 16th) Cheaper flights from Manchester available via glasgow though!
